Also known as the evolutionary diet, the ancestral diet and the prehistoric diet, the paleo diet is a healthy way to eat. It is the only nutritional approach which works with our bodies genetics in order to help us stay lean, strong and full of energy. Here is a rough beginners guide to the paleo diet and why it is so great.
The building blocks of the paleo diet is protein. It is important to consume plenty of protein in the form of meats and fish for healthy muscles and immune function. The paleo diet recommends that you consume meats, fish and eggs for protein.
Alongside your protein is plenty of fresh fruit and vegetables. Any leafy green veg are great, as well as salad veggies, root vegetables (except potatoes) are fab and fruit can be enjoyed in moderation. Vegetables and fruits provide the body with antioxidants, minerals and vitamins as well as fibre.
Healthy fats should be included on this diet, with animal fats, olive oil, coconut oil, nuts and seeds being excellent sources. They are rich in omega-3 fatty acids which reduce liklihood of cancer, obesity and diabetes to name a few.
